Objective: To evaluate the application and effectiveness of 5S health education model on patients with intracranial tumor.Methods The 302 patients with intracranial tumor were enrolled into 2 groups by admission date,the 154 patients who were hospitalized from April to June of 2015 were enrolled into control group, the 148 patients who were hospitalized from July to September of 2015 were enrolled into experimental group. Control group received routine health education, including health education at admission and discharge, preoperative and postoperative health education, and the questions that the nurses found during the nurse work. While the experimental patients received 5S health education model.The level of health education knowledge, the level of preoperative anxiety and postoperative pain, the satisfaction of the health education were compared between the two groups. All data were processed by SPSS 17.0 software for statistical analysis. Differences in measurement data were compared with t-test, the enumeration data were compared by the Chi-Square test.Results 1. Comparison of baseline data: There were no statistically significant differences between the two groups in gender, age, marital status, education, monthly income, medical insurance category, type of illness, operation level, comparable(P > 0.05). 2. The level of health education knowledge: There were no statistically significant differences between the two groups at the first day of admission. The level of health education knowledge was significantly higher than that in the control group at the time of discharge. 3. The scores of state trait anxiety scale: There is no statistical difference(P > 0.05) between the two groups at the first day of admission, and the scores were higher than the internal norm. The day before operation, two groups of patients with state anxiety levels were significantly higher than those of the admission and the state anxiety of patients in the experimental group was significantly lower than that of the control group(P < 0.05). 4. Postoperative pain intensity: The experimental group patients at 24 hours after operation and the most painful value during 24 hours were lower than that of control group(P < 0.05). 5. The satisfaction of health education: the patients in the experimental group health education was significantly higher than the control group at the day of discharge,(P<0.05).Conclusion 1. The 5S health education model can effectively improve the level of health knowledge of the patients with intracranial tumor, strengthen with correct understanding of the disease itself, establish the confidence to overcome the disease, actively cooperate with the treatment and nursing. 2. The patients with intracranial tumor existed anxiety when they admitted to the hospital, and with the operation approaches, the anxiety increased gradually, the anxiety state of patients in the experimental group was significantly lower than that of the control group, the 5S health education model can reduce more preoperative anxiety, to smooth operation. 3. The 5S health education model can reduce the level of postoperative pain level, so as to further promote the patient’s comfort and rehabilitation. 4. The 5S health education model compared with the conventional health education model could improve the satisfaction of health education, improve nursing quality.
