Objective:To analyze the inducements of temporomandibular disorder pain of young and mid-aged patients in Chongqing through clinical studies. Providing clinical guide for diagnosis, treatment and prevention of temporomandibular disorder pain through the analysis and noting the necessity of temporomandibular specialized examination. Methods:This study classifies and analyzes 100 clinically diagnosed cases of temporomandibular disorder pain which are diagnosed in Department of Temporomandibular Joint, College of Stomatology, Chongqing Medical University from September 2013 to September 2014. It is recorded whether the patients have the inducements such as unilateral chewing, bruxism, malocclusion, psychological factors, socioeconomic status, clenching, large opening habits, temperature changes, chewing on something hard and so on. Then we analyze the main inducements of TMD pain through Chi-squaretest and Binary logistic regression analysis. Results:Unilateral chewing (P<0.001), Bruxism (P=0.009), psychological factors (P=0.001) have obvious relationship with TMD pain. TMD pain is most relevant to unilateral chewing (OR=6.334, 95%CI=2.284-17.565), followed by psychological factors (OR=4.330, 95%CI= 1.232-15.216), and finally as Bruxism (OR= 3.370, 95%CI=1.041-10.907). Among patients with the habit of unilateral chewing, the arthralgia (P=0.040) and myofascial pain (P=0.044) are associated with unilateral chewing, and they seem to occur on the non-usual side. Conclusion:The main inducements for young and mid-aged patients in Chongqing with temporomandibular disorder pain are unilateral chewing, bruxism and psychological factors. However, it still remains unclear whether the observed relationships between the inducements and young and mid-aged patients with TMD pain have a true causal linkage regarding of the interaction of each factor.
