Objective:To investigate carbon nanoparticles suspension for the conservation of parathyroid function and the effect of central neck dissection in operation of papillary thyroid carcinoma. Method:The data of 109 patients who underwent total thyroidectomy and central neck dissection at thyroid surgery department of the First Hospital of Jilin University from July 2015 to September 2015 were retrospectively analyzed. 43 patients were divided into the carbon group and 66 patients were divided into the control group according to whether carbon nanoparticles suspension was used in operation. The parathyroid hormone levels, postoperative blood calcium levels, the incidence of postoperative symptoms of low calcium of the two groups were analyzed. And the number of lymph nodes in central region, positive lymph nodes in central region and the neck lymph node metastasis rate of the two groups were also evaluated. Results:Among the 109 patients: male 22 cases, female 87 cases; the ratio of male to female was 1:3.95; the average age was 44.56±9.34; the average size of tumor was(1.39 ± 0.77) cm; The postoperative parathyroid hormone, postoperative blood calcium of the carbon group were respectively:(17.83 ± 9.77) pg/ml,(2.07 ± 0.20) mmol/L. The postoperative parathyroid hormone, postoperative blood calcium of the control group were respectively:(13.94 ± 7.86) pg/ml,(1.99 ± 0.20)mmol/L, below the nano carbon group, and the difference had statistical significance(P < 0.05); The number of central lymph nodes and positive lymph nodes of the carbon group were more than the control group, and both bad statistical significance(P=0.031, 0.038, respectively). The lymph node metastasis rates had no statistical difference between the two groups. Conclusion:The transient hypoparathyroidism after the surgery of papillary thyroid carcinoma is common, carbon nanoparticles suspension can aid the identification of parathyroid gland through negative enhancement effect and improve the postoperative parathyroid hormone and blood calcium levels. Carbon nanoparticles suspension could not reduce the incidence of postoperative symptoms of low calcium. Carbon nanoparticles suspension can improve the thoroughness of central neck dissection of papillary thyroid carcinoma through lymphatic tracer role.
