The incidence of enamel demineralization in orthodontic patients who accepted fixed orthodontic technique is very high. Although good oral hygiene habits, such as using fluoride mouthwash can prevent the occurrence of enamel demineralization, but it requires the cooperation of the patients, and orthodontic groups mainly for young people, compared with adults, compliance is generally poor. Therefore, the method does not depend on the compliance of patients with the prevention of enamel demineralization is particularly important. This study intended to add an orthodontic bonding resin a strontium-reinforced bioactive glassceramic(SBG) which has a good biocompatibility, antibacterial property and biological activity, made the orthodontic adhesive resin had a effect of antibacterial and anti-caries.In this study, 1%, 2%, 3%, 2% and 5%(mass fraction) SBG were incorporated into a enamel bonding resin as five experimental groups: group 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 and there was a control group: group 0 without adding SBG antibacterial ring did not appear in the experimental group and control group; the antibacterial rate of group 1, 2 was less than 90%, group 3 had a effect of antibacterial with the antibacterial rate was more than 90% and the group 4, 5 had a strong antibacteria effect with the antibacterial rate reached 99%. The study also used a universal testing machine to test the shear strength of each group above, then observed and recorded the adhesive remnant index(ARI) after debonding the brackets. The results showed that the shear strength of group 1 ~ 5 had significant difference(P<0.05) comparing to group 0 but the difference among these groups had no statistical significance(P>0.05), and the shear strength of each group all can meet the clinical needs. The tooth surface of experimental groups and control group had enamel adhesive resin residual and ARI scores were from 2 to 4 and the ARI results had no statistically significant difference among groups(P>0.05).This indicates that incorporated a mass fraction of 1% ~ 5% SBG into the enamel bonding resin slightly reduced the shear strength, but the strength can still meet the needs of clinical orthodontic; Incorporation of SBG did not increase the risk of injurying the enamel in the range of 1%-5%.The study showed that the enamel bonding resin containing 4% SBG(mass fraction)had a strong antibacterial effect, also can satisfy the shear strength of orthodontic clinical needs, and did not increase the risk of increase the risk of injurying the enamel, therefor it can be considered as the biological activity of antibacterial substances applied to orthodontic enamel adhesive resin. However, the study adopted the method of in vitro, and can not completely simulate the real situation, so a further studies was still need on the application of enamel adhesive resin containing a SBG.The innovation of this research was that the different mass fraction of SBG was doped into a enamel bonding resin, and the antibacterial properties and mechanical properties were studied to determine the incorporation of SBG. This research provided a theoretical basis for the application of enamel bonding resin containing a SBG to prevent enamel demineralization.
