Background Total hip arthroplasty(THA) is considered to be one of the most effective methods for treating end-stage hip joint disease. However, clinical outcome of the THA in Patients 30 years or younger is unclear.Historically it was considered lower survivorship of implant in young patients. In recent years, the progress of prosthetic technology, materials science, the production technics and the development of surgical technology makes the surgical results of THA improved. The clinical results of THA in young patients are still lack of research.Materials and methods We retrospectively reviewed 8 patients(9hips) who had THA and were 30 years or younger at surgery during the period from 2013.1 to 2016.1.The mean age was 22.6(16-29)years.The most common diagnoses were Osteonecrosis of Femoral Head,DDH,rheumatoid arthritis, juvenile idiopathic arthritis. All patients were adopted fourth generation of ceramic on ceramic bearing or ceramic on highly cross-linked polyethylene and cementless fixation. Patients were taken a regular inspection and perioperative preparation. And harris hip store was recorded. We compared the pain, function, deformity, mobility store before and after operation individually。Radiographic evaluation was depended on AP X-Ray of bilateral hip.In addition, assessment of social activities and special position were be taken too. The data obtained using SPSS 22.0 for data analysis. Results 8 patients(9hips) were followed clinically an average of 14.38 months(range 8-24months).The mean HHS increased from 39.57±12.47 preoperatively to 98.14±2.67 postoperatively. The mean WOMAC score was decreased from 108.29±26.17 preoperatively to 9.86 ± 7.17 postoperatively. The mean deformity and mobility score were relatively high(3.43/4,3.86/5).The mean pain and function score were low(pain score 11.43/47,function store 20.86/44).It increased to 46.57/47 and 42.86/44 respectively. 1 patients returned to school after operation 6 months, 6 patients were able to return to work, in which 2 cases changed their original work because of the heavy workload. All 8 patients can take a squatting position and a cross-leg position, and no difference with normal. Only 1 patient had experience ofsqueaking while turning over in the bed at night. No osteolysis, aseptic loosening, heterotopic ossification and other relative complications occurred. And no revisionhad been taken. Conclusion THA in 30 years or younger patients achieved satisfactory clinical short-term results.
