Background:Total hip arthroplasty is the main therapy method of pain, deformity, activity obstacle caused by end-stage hip disease. Traditional artificial hip joint interface prosthesis is metallic femoral head and ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene (UHMWPE) lining, which also became the "gold standard" of American hip prosthesis interface design. Because of its good short-term curative effect, metal-polyethylene prosthesis interface is widely applied in the world. But long-term follow-up results showed that polyethylene present higher surface wear rate. The bone dissolved and prosthesis loosening caused by wear particles are the main causes of joint replacement failure. It is more harmful to the young patients who exercise more, require higher life quality. As a result, more and more scholars actively seek other prosthesis interface, such as metal-metal (MOM), ceramic-ceramic (COC), etc. As the incremental improvements in the material science, the level of design and manufacture, MOM and COC prosthesis improve obviously in hardness, toughness, wear resistance, corrosion resistance, etc. Large diameter head MOM prosthesis and COC prosthesis not only reduce the wear rate more, but also increase active angle, lower the prosthesis dislocation rate. In this paper, I make a short-term follow-up visit to the patients who receive total hip arthroplasty using Delta ceramic interface to evaluate its clinical effect. Objective:To evaluate the short-term clinical effect of large diameter head Delta ceramic interface in total hip arthroplasty.Method:From February2009to December2012,32hips in27patients with hip disease were treated with total hip arthroplasty using Link BIOLOX Delta36mm diameter of large femoral head in ceramic-on-ceramic total hip prosthesis in Shandong provincial hospital. Clinical evaluation of the joint function of both preoperative and postoperative was performed by Harris hip score. Radiographic analysis was got by Greun-Amstutz zonal method for the stem and the zonal classification of Delee-Charnley for the cup implants.Result:All27patients treated by THA with Delta ceramic-on-ceramic total hip prosthesis were followed up for4months to25months (averaged10.1months). The average Harris score are44.2points preoperatively and92.2points postoperatively. The radiographic position of implants was good without evidence of wear, loosening, osteolysis and ceramic fracture. Conclusions:The early clinical efficacy of ceramic on ceramic total hip prosthesis is satisfactory and the high quality of life of the patients can be expected because the excellent physical property and design concept of the Delta ceramic on ceramic prosthesis.
