Acute interstitial nephritis (AIN) defines a pattern of renal injury that is usually associated with an abrupt deterioration in renal function. The causes of AIN usually fall within one of three general categories:drug induced, infection associated, and autoimmune mediated. The third category includes Sjogren’s syndrome, lupus nephritis, and tubulointerstitial nephritis and uveitis (TINU) syndrome.Tubulointerstitial nephritis and uveitis syndrome is characterized by a combination of acute tubulointerstitial nephritis and uveitis.Patients usually present with nonspecific symptoms, such as fever, weight loss, fatigue, anorexia, arthralgia and myalgia. The uveitis may appear one year later after the renal disease, but it may also precede it.Renal disease is often self-limiting,whereas uveitis can persist or recur.Although eye diseases can last for several months, but if given local and systemic immunosuppressive therapy, these patients may have a good prognosis. The presence of acute tubulointerstitial nephritis (AIN) and uveitis is probably underdiagnosed among young patients.Acute tubulointerstitial nephritis and uveitiscomorbidity in children has several causes including tubulointerstitial nephritis and uveitis (TINU) syndrome, systemic sarcoidosis, and systemic lupus erythematosus.
