The labile iron pool is a special type of iron, which exists in lysosome mostly. Labile iron pool produces oxygen free radicals via oxidation reduction reaction. The progress leads cell oxidative stress and development of cardiovascular diseases. The labile iron pool level in cells can be tested by flow cytometry. Recent studies have suggested that labile iron pool is related to intracellular oxidative stress injury and cardiovascular diseases.
