Background:In the 1980s, Baker first proposed "fetal origin hypothesis" that malnutrition in early life is related to the chronic diseases in adults. Many experiments have confirmed their view, and gradually formed a theory of "developmental origins of health and diseaseObjective:To study the cognitive function of people who were exposed to the Chinese famine (1959-1961) in their early life (the fetus, infant period) and investigate the impact of early malnutrition on cognitive function in adults. Methods:From may 2013 to may 2014,we studied people in healt h center of the first affiliated hospital of chongqing medical university. There were 718 subjects. We divided them into three groups according to the date of birth:subjects who were born before the famine (1956.1 0.1-1958.9.30) were regarded as G1 group (236cases),Subjects who w ere born during the famine (1959.10.1-1961.9.30) were chosen as G2gr oup(240cases),people who were born after the famine (1962.10.1-1964. 9.30) were chosen as G3group (242cases).The three groups would fin ish AVLT-H, MMSE,MoCA,ADL and the general information survey. T hen we analysed the results. Results:There was statistically significant(P<0.05) on the short ter m and long term delayed recall, clue memory, recognized memory in A VLT-H.There was also statistically significant (P<0.05)in MMSE and MoCA.G1 and G2 group has the lower scores than G3 group. The prev alence of MCI in G1 group was 5.08% and G2 group was 5.00%. G3 group was 3.72%. G1 and G2 group had a higher prevalence of MCI c ompared to G3 group, but there was no statistically significant (P>0.0 5)Conclusions:Different period of early life exposed to the malnourished environment may have influences on the cognitive function in adults. As these people are about to reach the onset age, it is meaningful for these people to take measures to prevent the occurrence of MCI and MCI into AD.
