Objective:To investigate nurses,cognitive behavior and implementation situation of patient education from four hospitals in Taiyuan of China and Saitama of Japan respectively. To compare the situations of two places and learn from each other’s advantages and improve the disadvantages so as to promote the further development of the job together. To explore the development direction of patients education in the future.Methods:This study is a cross-section research study, combining questionnaire, interviews and observation on scenes to investigate nurses’ cognitive behavior and implementation situation of patient education focusing on nurses in four comprehensive hospitals of Saitama in Japan and Taiyuan in China respectively. Using SPSS19.0 for data arranging and analysis, questionnaire data was described by proper statistical approach. The interview data and observation date was sorted, analysed and induced combining the bibliographic materials.Results:(1).1000 questionnaires were sent out in Saitama of Japan and 771 questionnaires were retrieved among which 761 were valid. The effective retrieved rate was 76.1%; A total number of 1100 questionnaires were sent out in Taiyuan city and the recycling questionnaires were 896, getting rid of the invalid 76 questionnaires, the effectiverecycling questionnaires were 820, effective recycling rate was 74.5%.(2).According to the score, it showed that nurses’ cognitive behavior towards patient education of the two places were consistent on general. The implementation of patient education follow the steps of the nursing process. The Japanese colleagues pay more attention to cultivating the patient’s self-care ability and protecting the patients’ privacy,also, the effect evaluation focuses on the change of patients’ behaviors. Nurses in Taiyuan city lay particular emphasis on providing the patients with related medical information about the disease, the evaluation focuses on the memorization and understanding of the education contents.(3).The patients education contents were both rich and the forms and types of which were various and each has its own merits. Nnurses in Sataima pay attention to whether the instruction contents were popular and easy to understand or not and whether the patients can comprehend and accept, they chose the education forms according to patients’ likes which makes the patients feel respected and loved. Meanwhile, they always provided patients caregivers with rescue technology. The nurses in our city added the knowledge of Traditional Chinese Medical and nourishing life for patient in the education, the overall concept of Traditional Chinese Medicine theory and method, especially preserving one’s health and restoring to health of the Traditional Chinese Medical science played an important role in the chronic disease management, such as health “qigong”, massage,Chinese dietetic therapy can raise the quality of life and improve the patient’s condition of chronic patients group and high risk group.(4).Both places faced the difficulties of the shortage of nursing resource, education time, education resources and the insufficient width and depth of nurses’ knowledge which all hindered the effective implementation of patients education. In addition, nurses in Saitama faced the language barriers when communicating with foreign patients, while the poor compliance of the patients’ families was one of the important influencing factors of the implementation of patients education in our city..Conclusions:(1).The nurses’ cognitive behaviors in the process of implementing the patient education in both places were consistent on general and both carried out the patient education based on the theoretical framework of nursing process, the education content were rich, the forms of education were rich and varied, and each had its strong points.(2).There were still improving space of health education, it was necessary to set up a kind of health education mode without the restrict of time and place.(3).Nurses in Saitama paid more attention to the practice of details, the protection of patient privacy, the cultivation of self-care ability, family education and the comfort of the psychological state of patients. Besides evaluation was given priority to the behavior change which was worthy our study.(4).Nurses in Taiyuan utilized Traditional Chinese Medical science in patient education which was good to promote the life quality of the chronic illness patients in our city, which is worthy reference of Japanese nurses.
