The γ-PGA is water soluble, biodegradable, edible and non-toxic toward humans and the environment. Nowadays, the hemostatic agents have some limits, such as, long time needed in the surgical, not curable, non-degradable and toxic cross-linking agents. To improve the effective of hemostatic agents, the new hemostatic material should be developed. The γ-PGA was used as a carrier to bind calcium ion. Flexibility of the materials was improved by plasticizer and then the γ-PGA hemostatic agent was made by freezing drying. There were two kinds of types hemostatic agents in this thesis: γ-PGA powder and γ-PGA sponge.The calcium content weight of γ-PGA-Ca is 3.7%.The SEM showed that γ-PGA sponge had porous structure.γ-PGA sponge excellent tense strength and its p H was tested.This thesis was evaluated γ-PGA-Ca biocompatibility evaluation. The γ-PGA sponge have low toxicity and it’s safety for biomedical application. The blood compatibility were evaluated by the rabbits blood. The results indicated that γ-PGA sponge had good blood compatibility.The systemic toxicity test, the skin irritation test and sensitization test were evaluated by Kun Ming mice, sprague dawley rats and guinea pigs,respectively. The results showed thatγ-PGA-Ca sponge had non- systemic toxicity,non- skin irritation and non- sensitization. The mean hemostatic time of γ-PGA-Ca sponge were(57±15)s and(106±9)s in the liver edge shear model and wound in the the liver surface by needle in sprague dawley rats,respectively.The average hemostatic time of γ-PGA-Ca powder was(41±13)s in the sprague dawley rats femoral artery. The γ-PGA-Ca sponge had degraded completely in the twenty-first day in the liver wound. The γ-PGA-Ca powder was used in the wound of spague dawley rats skin and the wound had cured in thirteen day. The reuslt showed that the powder benefited for the skin wound.In conclusion, the γ-PGA-Ca made in this thesis can use for the hemostatic and it is degradable, good biocompatibility and beneficial for wound. The γ-PGA-Ca sponge andγ-PGA-Ca powder could be used as promising for hemostatic agent and surgical dressing.
