Objective Brain is one of the various transfer part of the common malignant tumors. According to the statistics, some methods such as early detection and selecting the reasonable treatment, can prolong the patient life maximum, improve the quality of survival. For different primary tumors of the intracranial metastases, the choice of clinical treatment is different. Some are difficult to determine by biopsy and some of the primary tumor type before the primary tumor found in patients with brain metastases, if doctor can infer the type of primary tumor through the imaging findings of brain metastases, the choice of clinical treatment can provide certain guidance. This paper collected 210 MRI cases from June 2011 to July 2013, who had the clinical diagnosis of brain metastases and the clear primary tumor type; the MRI lesions were retrospectively analyzed. Methods Collecting the 210 patients from Inner Mongolia Medical University affiliated hospital from June 2011 to July 2013 who took MRI, the clinical diagnosis of brain metastases and the primary tumor type were identified. Dividing the common primary tumors of the brain into different groups(not including the primary tumor cases ≤4): 64 patients of lung adenocarcinoma, and 60 cases of small cell lung cancer, 27 cases of lung squamous carcinoma, 19 cases of breast cancer, 15 cases of colorectal cancer. All patients were taken MRI scan and enhanced scan, and the images were double-blind read by two long engaged in MRI diagnosis doctor who combined with the clinical and pathological results agree after the MRI results. Recording the number, the size, the location, the signal characteristics, the strengthen degree and the edema of tumor.Statistical methods using SPSS13.0 software, χ2test statistical methods to P < 0.05 for statistical significance. Results In MRI scan, Common malignant tumors such as lung cancer and breast cancer had the most of long T1 and long T2 signals, but the majority of colorectal cancers had mixed or low intensity on MR T2WI(71.4%),the majority of metastasis showed clear bound on DWI(69.4%),the contrast-enhanced scan had the highest detection rate(97.8%).The statistical analysis showed that the number, diameter, enhanced features and edema-size of metastasis had relationship to the primary tumors(P<0.05)Distribution has nothing to do with the primary tumors of intracranial metastatic lesions, but is associated with intracranial blood supply distribution, in the majority with supratentorial lesions, 288(79.3%),throughout the forehead, roof, temporal lobe, act for 61, cerebellar hemisphere accounted for90.2%(55/61). Conclusion The brain metastasis of different malignant tumors could have various characteristic features in MR images; to analyze the plain, enhancement and diffusion MR images provided important value in the diagnosis and differential diagnosis of the brain metastases.
