Study Of The Influence Of Minocycline-hcl On PGE₂ And IL-1β Expression In GCF Of Fixed Orthodontics Patients

Objective:With the improvement of people’s living standards, there aesthetic requirements are increasing. Therefore, more and more people choose fixed orthodontics. But, in the process of the fixed orthodontics, the fixed appliance is bonded to the surface of the tooth, and the use of ligature, rubber bands, etc., which increasing the difficulty of machanical removal of plaque. The plaque accumulates gradually, which forms a long-term stimulation to the gums,turning to gingivitis at last, leading to gum swelling, brushing teeth bleeding, and even affecting the treatment process and the effect of the fixed orthodontics. This study is to observe the clinilal efficacy of minocycline-HCl ointment by detecting the concentration of PGE2 and IL-1β in GCF of fixed orthodontics patients, which providing clinical treatment of gingivitis for fixed orthodontics patients.Methods:Choose 50 patients 12-25 years old at the First Hospital of Shanxi Medical University,Department of Orthodontics since March 2013, including 23 males and 27 females, who accepted fixed appliance therapy and suffered from gingivitis meanwhile. The left side of the mouth and the right side were randomly devided into the experimental group and the control group. Choose 11、16、21、26、31、36、41、46 as the index teeth. After full- mouth scaling, put minocycline-HCl ointment into gingival sulcus of experimental group, once a week, four times in total. Taking the GCF before the start of the experiment and after and detected concentrations of PGE2 and IL-1β, and carrying on periodontal probing to observe the effects. Using SPSS13.0 statistical analysis software to test data.Results:(1). ELISA test results: the difference of PGE2 concentration in two groups of patients before treatment was not statistically significant, but the difference was statistically significant after treatment, and the concentration of PGE2 was significantly reduced in the experimental group. The difference of IL-1β concentration in two groups of patients before treatment was not statistically significant, but the difference was statistically significant after treatment, and the concentration of IL-1β was significantly reduced in the experimental group.(2). Probing results: the difference of BI in two groups of patients before treatment was not statistically significant, but the difference was statistically significant after treatment, and the result of BI was significantly reduced in the experimental group. The difference of PD in two groups of patients before treatment was not statistically significant,but the difference was statistically significant after treatment, and the result of PD was significantly reduced in the experimental group.Conclusion: Minocycline-HCl ointment has a preventive and therapeutic effect on gingivitis during fixed appliance therapy.
