Objective: To investigate the effects of subtotal gastrectomy on blood glucose in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus. Methods: Retrospective analysis of 99 patients with diabetes mellitus treated in Affiliated Hospital of Yan’an University during 2009 ~2014 and clinical data of patients with gastric most resection operation. By selecting, 45 cases with complete clinical data, longer survival, no complications, willing to cooperate with the interview were studied. According to the blood glucose and intake control postoperative divided the patients into remission group and ineffective group. By comparing the difference of age, height, weight, BMI etc. and analyzing the changes of blood glucose and blood sugar control drug dosage between the two groups of patients before and after operation, and collecting the relevant data through the statistics, to analyze the effect of subtotal gastrectomy on blood glucose in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus. Results: Of the 45 subjects included: 34 cases of male, 11 cases were female, 30 cases of gastric cancer, of which 29 cases were in remission group; mean age was 63.2 years(remission group: 61.4 years old, ineffective group: 67 years old), the average duration of dabetes was 7.4 years(remission group: 5.5 years, ineffective group: 10.7 years); including 25 cases BillrothⅠtype, 20 patients with Billroth II type. Statistical analysis showed that: two groups of patients no significant association in terms of gender, age, operation type, BM, basic diseases, but compared with the remission group, ineffective group have longer diabetes duration(5.5y VS.10.7y, P < 0.05); compared with the preoperative, postoperative 1 years in remission group FBG had no significant change(7.19mmol/ L VS.7.23 mmol/L, P > 0.05), 2h PBG decreased significantly(11.29mmol/LVS.8.46 mmol/L, P < 0.05), while the ineffective group FBG significantly increased(7.96mmol/L VS. 8.34 mmol/L, P < 0.05), 2h PBG had no significant change(11.06mmol/L VS.10.48 mmol/L, P > 0.05), there are statistically significant differences between groups. At the same time compared with the ineffective group, the remission group also significantly reduced insulin dose. Conclusions: Subtotal gastrectomy on blood glucose of patients with type 2 diabetes has some effect, but this effect depends on the patient’s diabetes duration.
