Objective This study was designed to investigate the effects of restrictive transfusion on post-operative quality in spine surgery patients. Methods The study chose the patients who were aged between 18 to 59 years old and were undergone the elective posterior lumbar interbody fusion surgery. Patients were randomly assigned into two groups when transfusion were needed : group A was the restrictive transfusion group and group B was the liberal transfusion group. The transfusion triggers in group A and B were Hb<8g/d L and Hb < 10g/d L respectively. The primary outcome was PQRS( Post-operative Quality Recovery Scale) scores during preoperation, 1d after operation, 3d after operation, 7d after operation. The secondary outcomes were the hospital stay time, the adverse events, blood transfusion units and so on.Results 51 patients were analysed totally. The restrictive group(24 patients) and the liberal group(27 patients) had similar baseline characteristics( P> 0.05). The hospital stay time after surgery and the adverse events incidence had no significant difference in two groups( P> 0.05). There were no bad recovery in all patients and there was no significant difference of each level distribution between two groups at T1-T7(P>0.05). Compared with liberal group, patients of restrictive transfusion group had fewer RBC transfusion obviously. Conclusion Restrictive transfusion( transfusion trigger was Hb< 8g/d L) had no significant effects on the earlier post- operative recovery in patients undergoing spine surgery, and it had an obvious effect on the allogenic RBC transfused amount.
