Objective To investigate the expression of muscarinic cholinergic receptor 3(M3R) in small cell lung cancer(SCLC) and the correlation between it and clinical characteristics of SCLC. Methods The M3 R expression was examined in 60 SCLC patients admitted in General Hospital of Ningxia Medical University using immunohistochemistry. The patients were evaluated by clinical history, physical examination and chest CT. Survival period was got through telephone follow-up. Results The M3 R expression in primary SCLC tissues was higher than that in normal lung tissues. The M3 R expression had no difference between limited-disease and extensive-disease of SCLC(P﹤0.05). According to TNM staging, M3 R in expression has correlation with T, M staging(P﹤0.05), but has no correlation with the N stage(P>0.05). There was no correlation between M3 R expression and age, gender(P>0.05). The M3 R expression was significantly correlated with smoking history. The survival time of M3 R negative patients was longer than that of M3 R positive patients in Kaplan-Meier survival carve. Conclusion The M3 R expression in primary SCLC tissues was higher than that in normal lung tissues. M3 R expression had some correlation with prognosis of SCLC patients.
