Objective: The objective of my study is to investigate the correlation between lip colour and lustre and duodenal ulcer(DU) temper deficiency syndrome by utilizing epidemiologic method, to treat some patients using the spleen and replenishing qi therapy, and to explore the role of "Spleen Manifesting in Lips" in DU temper deficiency syndrome diagnosis and treatment.Ways: With the method of clinical epidemiological investigation, the clinical data of 145 patients with DU temper deficiency syndrome in the outpatient and inpatient departments of the digestive department in Chinese medicine hospital in Shandong province are collected and sorted out. The lip images of 160 healthy college students are also collected. The Adobe Photoshop CS4 processing software is adopted to obtain the R, G, B values of the lip colour and lustre. The Excel database is also established. The correlation between lip colour and lustre and DU temper deficiency syndrome is then analyzed. 62 patients who show the syndrome of the yellow mouth weeks are treated using the spleen and replenishing qi therapy. The symptoms, tongue veins, lip colour and lustre as well as the changes of the R, G, B values are watched before and after the treatment. The SPSS17.0 statistical software is employed to analyze the data.Results:1. The male to female ratio of the 145 cases is 2.63 :1. The incidence rate for men is higher than that of women, accounting for 53.8%. The peak incidence is between 25 and 45 years old. The disease has obvious seasonal characteristic. The onset seasons are fall(29.0%), spring(24.8%), winter(15.9%) and changing seasons(14.5%). The incidence rate is low in summer. The course of the disease is mostly between 6 months and 5 years, accounting for 40.0%.2. Main clinical Chinese medicine symptoms of the 145 patients include epigastralgia(96.55%), indigestion and loss of appetite(93.10%), pantothenic acid(89.66%), fatigue(71.72%), belching(70.34%), abdominal distention and fullness(56.55%).3. 62 cases with the yellow mouth week change are watched, accounting for 42.8%, in which there are more men than women(1.8:1). The age distribution is mostly between 25 and 45 years old. The job nature is mainly mental worker(45.2%). The predisposing factors are primarily improper diet(30.6%) and modern stimulus(27.4%).4. Before treatment, the R, G, B values of the 62 patients with the yellow mouth weeks are significantly lower than that of the 160 healthy college students.5. After the spleen and replenishing qi treatment, the clinical symptoms, tongue pictures, pulse conditions and gastroscope images of these 62 patients with the yellow mouth weeks are significantly improved. The grades and R, G, B values of the lip colour and lustre are distinctly different from that before treatment(P < 0.05).Conclusion: 1. About 50% in 145 patients with DU temper deficiency syndrome is accompanied by different levels of the yellow mouth week change, in which there are more men than women, mainly young and middle-aged. Mental workers account for a rather high proportion.2. After the spleen and replenishing qi treatment, the clinical symptoms, tongue pictures, pulse conditions and gastroscope images of these 62 patients are obviously improved, which proves the correlation of the yellow mouth weeks and spleen deficiency syndrome.3. The yellow clinical mouth weeks can be used as one of the bases of the diagnosis and curative effect of DU temper deficiency syndrome.
