Objective:Based on Chinese medicine theory and the ancient literature, combined with modern medical knowledge of postmenopause women with low bone mass, through clinical observation, to investigate the correlation between postmenopausal women with low bone mass and TCM syndrome type,to provide a reference to the prevention and treatment of postmenopausal low bone mass and postmenopausal osteoporosis in a TCM way. Methods: In this study, the volunteers came from the outpatient clinic and clinic recruited postmenopausal population in Shandong Provincial Traditional Chinese Medical Hospital from April in 2013 to December in 2014.This study uses the case- control method to 295 cases of postmenopausal women screening met the inclusion criteria. There are 163 Postmenopausals with low bone mass in the low bone mass group, the other 132 are in the control group.1. Establish a database to ensure the completeness and accuracy of the raw data.2.By cross-sectional observation method and collecting demographic data through a questionnaire survey study, traditional Chinese medicine syndromes are included in the database. 3. Use SPSS17.0 for statistical analysis. Using the chi-square test to analyse the classification count data and the Student’s t test to the score data, the find out the syndrome distribution. Results: 1. The distribution of TCM syndrome of postmenopausal lower bone mass group: syndrome of deficiency of kidney-YANG accounted for 27%,syndrome of yin deficiency of liver and kidney accounted for 40.5%,syndrome of yang deficiency of spleen and kidney accounted for 18.4%,syndrome of blood stasis and stagnant qi accounted for 14.1%. The distribution of TCM syndrome of the control group: syndrome of deficiency of kidney-YANG accounted for 25.8%,syndrome of yin deficiency of liver and kidney accounted for 44.7%,syndrome of yang deficiency of spleen and kidney accounted for 15.2%,syndrome of blood stasis and stagnant qi accounted for 14.3%. 2. There is no difference in comparison between the groups(P=0.314>0.05). 3. Statistical analysis of the top ten symptom of the postmenopause women with low bone mass shows:in the frequency of the symptom, there is no statistically significant difference in the comparison of amnesia、irritability、dry mouth、blurred vision、tinnitus and There was a statistically significant difference in the comparison of aversion to cold、burnout、Low back pain、gonalgia;in the score of the symptom, there is no statistically significant difference in the comparison of amnesia、irritability、dry mouth、blurred vision、tinnitus and There was a statistically significant difference in the comparison of aversion to cold、burnout、Low back pain、gonalgia. Conclusion: The result shows, the major TCM syndrome types of the postmenopausal low bone mass are syndrome of yin deficiency of liver and kidney and syndrome of deficiency of kidney-yang.In the distribution of TCM syndrome, there is no statistically significant difference which show that the women in the low bone mass group and the control group share the deficiency of liver and kidney. The comparison of the symptom score shows that the women in the low bone mass group are worse than in the control group in the deficiency of liver and kidney. So it’s suggested that the prevention of osteoporosis should start after menopause, and nourishing liver and kidney is the main method.
