Objective: To establish the anti-virus database of mint, study on the effective substance of mint against respiratory syncytial virus. To extract, separate, purify the effective material and study on the pharmacological activity. Methods: Detected the antiviral activity of the effective part of mint in vitro with the neutral red test and Cytopathic(CPE). With the antiviral therapeutic index(TI) in vitro as an index, screened the antiviral activity of mint and establish the antiviral database. With the respiratory syncytial virus as research subjects, the therapeutic index(TI) against respiratory syncytial virus in vitro as an index, four different extraction methods were screened to determine the best extraction method. With the therapeutic index(TI) against respiratory syncytial virus in vitro as an index, different type of macroporous resin were screened to determine the best type of macroporous resin for the separation and purification experiment. After gradient elution with different concentrations of the eluent, With the chloroform- methanol- water- acetic acid as a developer to preparative thin layer separation, determine the effective part of mint against respiratory syncytial virus. Intranasal respiratory syncytial virus(RSV) infected in mice to conduct model. Observed in lung tissue sections after oral administration. With the lung appearance score and lung pathology score as an indicator, evaluated the antiviral activity of mint effective parts in vivo. Results: Water extraction of mint had a therapeutic effect on respiratory syncytial virus, influenza virus, herpes simplex virus. The therapeutic index were 25.99,9.28,14.85 respectively. With the respiratory syncytial virus as the research object, the best extraction method was water extraction and alcohol precipitation. Model D101 macroporous resin had the best separation. Effective parts of mint against respiratory syncytial virus was spot sites with the chloroform- methanol- water- acetic acid as a developer. Pharmacological experiments showed that large doses of peppermint group had quite significant antiviral activity in vivo. Conclusion: Studied on the antiviral activity of mint and established anti-virus database. The extraction methods and models of macroporous resin were optimized and clearly the mint had valid site against respiratory syncytial virus. The experiments showed that the effective part of mint had good antiviral effect in vivo.
