Objectives:To explore the clinical efficacy and safety of frozen shoulder in its early stages by using the treatment option of Opposing Needling and Natural Torsion Field Infrared Lamp against ordinary acupuncture and Natural Torsion Field Infrared Lamp in Traditional Chinese Medicine clinics in Singapore.Methods:60 patients aged between 40 and 70 were selected randomly from the clinics if their frozen shoulder were within 3 months. They were then randomly split into 2 groups with 30 patients each. One will be the treatment group and the other the controlled group. The treatment group will be treated with Opposing Needling and Natural Torsion Field Infrared Lamp and the control group with ordinary acupuncture and Natural Torsion Field Infrared Lamp. Treatment is thrice a week, with Natural Torsion Field Infrared Lamp and daily exercise. One course requires 10 treatments in total. After one course is completed, each group will be judged on their shoulder functions. The main opposing needling points for treatment group are Jian Yu, Jian Liao, Jian Zhen, Qu Chi, He Gu and Nei Guan on the contralateral shoulder. The needle will be leaved on for 40 minutes, turned every 10 minutes. At the same time, shine the Natural Torsion Field Infrared Lamp on the ipsilateral shoulder for 40 minutes,20cm away from the skin. For the control group, the acupuncture points are on the ipsilateral shoulder. The needle will be leaved on for 40 minutes, turned every 10 minutes. At the same time, shine the Natural Torsion Field Infrared Lamp on the ipsilateral shoulder for 40 minutes,20cm away from the skin.Result:(1) The data analysis showed that there is no significant statistical difference in both groups based on the pain scale, shoulder functions and Activity of Daily Living(ADL) index before treatment(P>0.05). After treatment, there is also no significant statistical difference in both groups(2) There is no significant difference in the clinical efficacy between the two groups (P>0.05), cure rate is 100%Conclusion:(1) Both groups show improvement in pain score and mobility of the shoulder after treatment. There is no significant difference between the 2 groups.(2) Opposing needling and Natural Torsion Field Infrared Lamp shows effective treatment and recovery in the early stages of frozen shoulder.(3) Opposing needling and Natural Torsion Field Infrared Lamp shows a reduction in patient suffering as compared to ordinary acupuncture and Natural Torsion Field Infrared Lamp. Therefore the use of opposing needling and Natural Torsion Field Infrared Lamp is worthy of clinical application.
