Objective:To study the feasibility and clinical effect of laparoscopic radical colectomy and traditional open radical colectomy in treatment for colon cancer. Methods:Author retrospectively analyzed the 50 cases with colon cancer treated in his department from June.2005 to June.2008, which were given traditional open radical colectomy (control group, OP group), and the 60 cases with colon cancer treated in his department from March.2010 to March.2013, which were given laparoscopic radical colectomy (experimental group, LAP group). There was no difference in the age, gender, tumor status and the TNM stage between the two groups.Laparoscopic radical colectomy and traditional open radical colectomy were compared each other in Operative time, Intra-operative blood loss, Number of cleared lymph nodes, Need analgesic time, Recover time of gastrointestinal function, Ambulation time, Hospitalization time and Postoperative complication rate. In addition, we evaluated the long-term outcomes by analyzing postoperative follow-up results. Results:Both of two groups were completed successfully.Operative time and number of lymph nodes removed in two groups compared, the difference was not statistically significant (P> 0.05); Intra-operative blood loss, Need analgesic time, Recover time of gastrointestinal function, Ambulation time and Hospitalization time of experimental group were lower than those in control group, the difference was statistically significant (P<0.05), In addition, the postoperative complication rate of experimental group was only 22%, significantly lower than control group which was 38%, the difference was statistically significant (P<0.05). There was no statistical difference of the long-term outcomes in two years follow-up results between two groups (P>0.05).Conclusion:The laparoscopic radical colectomy treatment for colon cancer has the advantages of less bleeding, faster to recovery, fewer postoperative complications. At the same time, it has the same long-term outcomes. So it can be used as an optional procedure for colon cancer surgery and has great help on prognosis recovery of patients. The laparoscopic radical colectomy treatment for colon cancer is suitable for clinical popularization and application in the hospitals which have this technology.
