Background: In recent years, breast augmentation has become one of the most popular cosmetic surgeries, in which the implant location is the most critical thing. Currently, subglandular and subpectoral breast implants are the most popular ones. However, there are little comparative researches on the recovery period, incidence rate of complications and patients’ satisfaction between the two different implants in China. Therefore, this study is aimed at comparing the aforementioned three aspects in subglandular and subpectoral breast implants through retrospective study. Methods: A total of 144 patients who have taken aesthetic breast augmentation with cohesive silicone gel implant were included. Patients who have taken subglandular breast implants were defined as Group A, and patients who have taken subpectoral breast implants were defined as Group B. Patients’ basic information, surgery-related indicators, recovery situations, incidence rate of complications and their satisfactions were collected. Results: There were 39 patients included in group A and 105 patients in group B. In terms of patients’ basic information, there is no significant difference in the age, follow-up time and the size of implants between the two groups, but statistically significant in BMI and the preoperative mammary gland tissue thickness for which Group A is higher than Group B(p<0.05). For surgery-related indicators and recovery situations, the blood lost in the surgery is much less and the time for analgesia and indwelling drainage tube is much shorter for the patients in Group A(p<0.05). But regarding to the incidence rate of complications, only the rate of nipple and areola numbness is statistically significant in Group A(p<0.05), while no significant difference in other aspects. 76.47% of the patients in Group A are satisfied or very satisfied with the surgical effects which is not different from Group B(P>0.05).Conclusions: Implant placement in the subglandular plane has a shorter recovery period than that in the subpectoral plane. The occurrence of complications and degree of patient satisfaction are similar in the two groups. |
