Objective: We collected the periapical X-ray film of 208 clinical patients with apical periodontitis. Read the X-ray film and then made a statistics of them.To estimate the distribution law of prevalence of teeth with apical periodontitis, relationship of periapical bone lesions in connection with position of teeth and sex, relationship of the pevalence of root canal treatment of teeth in connection with position of teeth and gender, and to rich the epidemiological data in population with apical periodontitis also provide strong scientific basis for the oral health。Method:Collection of periapical X-ray films of 208 patients of first diagnosed with apical periodontitis in Stomatological Hospital Affiliated Dalian Medical University from May 2014 to June 2014. Reading X-ray film, to evaluate the periapical bone lesions and prevalence of root canal therapy of apical periodontitis teeth according to X-ray imaging results. Periapical bone lesions is estivated with periapical index(PAI) as the standard for grading. Statistical analysis the data. Results: There were 208 patients with AP with newly diagnosed and 263 teeth of AP in this study. Distribution law of apical periodontitis teeth: molar teeth(50.6%) were higher than premolar(24.7%) and anterior teeth(24.7%), the first molar teeth ofmandibular(17.9%)were the highest.,maxillary anterior teeth(17.5%) and premolar teeth(15.6%) were higher than mandibular teeth of anterior teeth(7.2%)and premolar teeth(9.1%). The related research of the prevalence of apical periodontitis in connection with gender indicated that there was no significant difference between prevalence of AP in male(44.23%) and female between(55.77%). There was no difference in degree of periapical bone lesions of teeth in connection with gender(female(PAI=3 anterior teeth(35.4%), premolar(24.6%), molar(24.1%), PAI=4 anterior tooth 7.7%, premolars(12.3%), molar(9.8%), PAI=5, anterior teeth 4.6%, premolars(0.0%), molar(5.3%)). Different gender of periapical bone lesions PAI=3 female 28.1% of male(25.8%), PAI=4 women of 10.1%, the male(9.7%), PAI=5. 3.6% of the), the male(4.0%) The prevalence of root- filled teeth of premolar teeth was(92.3%) higher than molar teeth(80.5%). O f all the 263 teeth with apical periodontitis, 220 teeth received root canal treated, root canal treatment rate was 83.65%. The prevalence of root canal treatment in male(81.5%) and female(85.6%),this study indicated that no significant difference with gender in connection with the rate of root canal therapy. Conclusion :This epidemiological investigation of periapical periodontitis indicates that, in Stomatological Hospital Affiliated Dalian Medical University distribution of teeth with periapical periodontitis:the prevalence of AP in connection with molar teeth is higher than premolar and anterior teeth. The first molar mandibularr is the most, maxillary anterior teeth and premolar teeth are higher than mandibular teeth of the name of multiple. There is no significant difference of periapical bone lesions in degree of AP teeth in different tooth position, but the prevalence of root- filled teeth of premolar teeth was significantly higher than that of the molar teeth. There was no significant difference between the prevalence of apical periodontitis, degree of periapical bone defect, root canal treatment in connection with gender.
