Background Carotid atherosclerosis is one of a risk factors for ischemic cerebral vascular disease. Focusing on the study of carotid atherosclerotic plaques has profound significance to prevent the occurrence of stroke and cure the disease. For elderly patients statins and ezetimibe can not only obtain plaque reversal, but also has long-term benefit for prolonging survival and improvement quality of life. Objective Through collecting the clinical resources of the patients and observing the clinical effectiveness, the treating differences of elderly patients with carotid atherosclerotic plaque can be estimated according to two therapeutic regimens:to cure the disease through rosuvastatin alliance with ezetimibe, or using rosuvastatin only. The research can guide the clinical medication for elderly patients with carotid at herosclerotic plaque. Methods 143 inpatients above 75 years old, whose disease of carotid at herosclerotic plaque were diagnosed by colored doppler in our hospital between Mar.2012 and Dec. 2013, were collected and divided into two groups randomly:observation group(68 cases) and control group(75 cases). With singleblind observation, the observation group were given rosuvastatin combined with ezetimibe, the control group were only given rosuvastatin. After 6 months’continuous observation, compared the general clinical data before and after treatment, including the general routine data:patient age, gender, diabetes history, past history of hypertension, history of smoking (smoking index); admission routine biochemical indicators include:total lymphocyte count hemoglobin, C-reactive protein, fibrinogen, platelet count, low density lipoprotein (LDL-C)level, creatinine levels, international normalized ratio, total cholesterol (TG) level, total triglycerides, high density lipoprotein (HDL-C) level; imaging data:the degree ofcarotid artery stenosis, Type of patch area and high resolution magnetic resonance plaque. Compared the data of two groups before and after treatment, the effectiveness of two treatment plans can be estimated. Results Among the elected 143 cases of inpatients the general data of two groups, significant difference, have no statistical differences. After 6 months treatment, the carotid intimal plaque area of the two groups were reduced, the 1 evels of total cholesterol(TC), triglyceride(TG), low-density lipoprotein cholsterol(LDL-c) were decreased and the level of high density lipoprotein cholesterol(HDL-C) were increased in both groups. Compared with the connected data before the treatment, the difference has statistically significant(P<0.05). In observation group the inpatients’ arotid artery membrane patch areas were decreased. Compared the changes of TC, TG and LDL-c in the observation groups with the control group, the difference has statitically significance(P<0.05).Conclusion Rosuvastatin combined with ezetimibe could improve the carotid atherosclerotic plaque significantly and regulated blood lipid levels notablely. The treatment has better clinical effectiveness and fewer adverse drug reactions.
