On Professor Zhu Yuxia’s Acdamic Experience From Kidney-Tonifying Therapy

Professor Zhu Yuxia is a famous TCM expert of gynaecology. She has engaged in clinic, teaching and research in the field of TCM for more than 50 years, having rich clinical experience and unique use of kidney-tonifying therapy in the treatment of gynaecological diseases, and gradually developing a unique theoretical system.Objective: To summarize the academic points and clinical experience of Zhu Yuxia, a contemporary expert famous for tonifying-kidney therapy in TCM gynecology. This paper aims to further develop her clinical experience, heighten her academic points, and make her unique academic points, rich clinical experience, and unique theoretical insights and effective diagnosis rules inherited by later generations.Methods: Collect data by follow-up, real-time collection of cases, sorting case histories, consulting her essays and papers of her previous students, and acquiring knowledge from her speech and conduct, as well as reading classic works and related books and documents. Thesis will be written after sorting, inducing and analyzing the data.Results: What has been summarized are "a physician’s biography" “academic points on tonifying kidney ", "the medicating law for anovulatory infertility " and "appendix".(1)" a physician’s biography " mainly introduces professor Zhu Yuxia’s practice experience and the road to success; "academic points on tonifying kidney(2)" mainly introduces the origin of Zhu Yuxia’s academic thoughts of tonifying kidney; and explores the kidney-tonifying theory and her unique experience of tonifying kidney in clinical application;(3)"the medicating law for anovulatory infertility": Objective: To summarize and analyze the medicating experience from professor Zhu Yuxia in the treatment of anovulatory infertility. Methods: Data of 236 cases with anovulatory infertility treated by Professor Zhu Yuxia were collected and analyzed using frequency and index clustering. Results: the frequency of 37 kinds of drugs is over 10% and the frequency of 10 herbs is more than 60%, which are the main drugs of Zishiying Decoction invented by Zhu Yuxia. Cluster analysis method is used to divide drugs into 8 categories: drugs for invigorating kidney and replenishing essence, drugs for warming kidney-yang, drugs for eliminating dampness and dissipating phlegm, drugs for nourishing yin and soothing liver, drugs for nourishing qi to invigorate spleen, drugs for guiding meridians and activating blood circulation, drugs for nourishing blood and drugs for promoting blood circulation to remove meridian. Conclusion: Based on syndrome differentiation while medicating, Professor Zhu Yuxia combines tonifying kidney with replenishing qi to invigorate the spleen, or combines tonifying kidney with promoting blood circulation to dredge collaterals, or invigorates the kidney and resolves phlegm together, or harmonizes kidney, liver and spleen to treat anovulatory infertility by modifying drugs. Commonly used drugs in her prescription can be divided into 8 categories and 44 kinds.(4)"Appendix" includes collection of reviews of academic experience from senior Chinese practitioners, reviews of kidney-tonifying methods used by senior Chinese practitioners in the treatment of gynecological diseases and the academic theses published by the author of this paper during campus time.Conclusion: Professor Zhu Yuxia has long labored in the academic field of TCM. He is rigorous in study and teaching, discriminates things with wisdom and pursues innovation. She has not only profound knowledge of traditional Chinese medicine and superb medical technology, but also noble medical ethics. Her main academic points on kidney-tonifying therapy are as follows: Kidney deficiency is the basic cause of gynaecological diseases, so a physician should follow the advice from Nei Jing(Huang Di’s Canon of Medicine), that is, "The key to the treatment of a disease is to find the cause. " Gynaecological diseases and diseases during pregnancy all are caused by kidney problems. When there is no excess syndrome, the kidney should be tonified and nourished. Zhu Yuxia often uses eight kidney-treating methods to systematically perfect and study her poins on tonifying kidney. They are tranquilizing heart by tonifying kidney; soothing liver by tonifying kidney; strengthening spleen by tonifying kidney; replenishing qi by tonifying kidney; promoting blood circulation by tonifying kidney; strengthening Chong Meridian by tonifying kidney; replenishing essence by tonifying kidney; and dissipating phlegm by tonifying kidney. Zhu Yuxia’s unique kidney-tonifying method, rich clinical experience, innovative viewpoints and effective experience of diagnose and treatment can offer part of date for her would-be book Chu Yuxia Fuke Yi’an(Chu Yuxia’s Case Records of Gynecological Diseases), which can provide valuable reference for a majority of young workers in clinical gynecology, and make her academic essence fully developed and passed to the future generations.
