Coronary artery disease (CAD) is the number 1 killer in the world and is seriously threatening to the human healthy. As multifactorial in the develop process of CAD, it has great disadvantages in the study and treatment of this disease. Atherosclerosis is the leading cause of CAD. CAD is the result of the interaction of many risk factors including immunological mechanism and inflammatory response. It has been estimated that heritable factors account for 40% to 60% of the risk for CAD. Because of CAD existing the genotype and phenotype heterogeneity and the interaction of gene-gene and gene-environment, it is difficult to confirm the genetic risk factors for CAD. At present, there are three ways of genetic research for CAD which are linkage analysis, association analysis and related analysis in large scale. Many candidate genes and susceptibility loci for CAD have been found in different analysis ways. At the meantime, the function of the candidate genes and the susceptibility loci has been verified in model mice. One third candidate gene affects the atherosclerosis by influencing plasm lipid, and the rest of the candidate gene is presumably work through other pathways. With the analysis of aetiological agent and genetic study in CAD, we selected the CAD related genes and SNPs which were studied in Chinese population in this study. On the basis of the above filters, we genotyped 12 CAD related SNPs which are located in 11 genes. The genotype frequencies of the elected SNPs were genotyped by SNaPshot technology and statistic genotype using the GeneMarker software, and analyzed the data with the help of R and SPSS software. Two SNPs which located in the VEGFA and MAPK1 gene are significantly related with CAD in Chinese population. The other selected SNPs have no significant difference between the CAD patients and healthy controls in Chinese population, and it may be caused by population structure among ethnicity.
