Early Results Of The Treatment For Isolated Compartmental Knee Osteoartheitis，Unicompartmental Knee Arthroplasty Versus Totle Knee Arthroplasty

Objective: To investigate the early result of unicompartmental kneearthroplasty(UKA) versus totle knee arthroplasty (TKA) for thetreatment of isolated compartmental osteoartheitis of knee and make astatistical analysis.Methods: Our unit has prospectively collected data on all the patientswho had been diagnosed as a unicompartmental osteoartheitis andaccepted UKA or TKA since Jan2013to Oct2014by a senior author.20patients meet the inclusion criteria for the study,5males and15females. Right knee in6cases,14cases of left.20patients randomlydivided into TKA and UKA groups, each group with10cases. Patientsevaluation focused on questionnair(HSS), blood loss, pain relief, theflexing angle bucking independently postoperative1week. The20patients were followed up for5-12months, average of8months.All theresults were compared and analyzed. UKA patients were selectedfollowing strict criteria.①Medial compartment degenerative joint disease with preservationof lateral compartmental cartilage；②An intact anterior cruciateligament；③Correctable varus deformity. Result: Therapeutic effects of both groups appeared excellent. Therewere no component loosening or revision. HSS knee improvedsignificantly in both groups and there were no significant differencesbetween them. Compared with the TKA group, the UKA had a betterflexing angle bucking independently postoperative1week and lessblood loss by a p<0.05.Conclusion: Unicompartment knee arthplasty is an effective procedurefor unicompartmental knee osteoarthritis. The early result of UKA andTKA is satisfactory. Compared with TKA, UKA has less trauma, lessblood loss and more rapid postoperative recovery.
