ObjectiveThe tumors of the cartilaginous portion of external auditory canal arenot uncommon. We clinical physicians and patients themselves don’t givea high attention because of deep location and unobvious early symptoms. The tumors of the cartilaginous portion of external auditory canal includemany benign tumors and tumor-like lesions. So early diagnosis andtimely operation is reliable measure to prevent cancer. The literaturesabout tumors of the cartilaginous portion of external auditory canal athome and abroad are less. The aim of this article is to have asystematically retrospective analysis for these patients with tumors ofcartilaginous portion of external auditory canal. We have completemedical records. Make a summary of their clinical characteristics. Toimprove the understanding, do early diagnosis and early treatment.MethodsThe clinical data of46cases tumors of the cartilaginous portion ofexternal auditory canal which were treated from September2012toJanuary2015in the second leg of the Jilin University wereretrospectively studied. The contents include age, sexual distinction, clinical manifestation, physical sign, pathology, image data and. clinicalstages. These patients were treated with different operative methodsaccording to the size and clinicopatholocal characteristic. And then followup, we clean up the cavity during the follow-up period. In order to reduce the probability of recurrence and increase the effect of surgical treatment,it is necessary to have a CT or MRI scan.ResultsThe46cases tumors of cartilaginous portion include44cases benignlesions. And the intradermal nevus is the most common, a total of18cases, accounting for39.1%of the total. The second is epidermal cyst, atotal of9cases, accounting for19.6%of the total. Cerumen gland tumor, hemangioma, schwannoma, seborrheic keratosis, papilloma are relativelyrare. The carcinomas of2cases are adenoid cystic carcinomas. Allpatients were followed up for3to28months. There is no recurrence ofall the patients during the follow-up period. They had a good livingquality.Conclusions1. The benign neoplasms are more common than the malignant onesin the cartilaginous part of external auditory canal.2. During the patients admitted in the surgical treatment, intradermalnevus is the most common benign neoplasm of the cartilaginous portionof external auditory canal, followed by epidermal cyst. The cerumen glandtumor, hemangioma, schwannoma, seborrheic keratosis are relatively rare. Themalignant tumors of adenoid cystic carcinoma can be found.3. Even if the clinical symptom is not obvious, we should also havethe fast pathologic examination in order to avoid misdiagnosis andinsufficient resection range.
