Objective1. To investigate the hypertension prevalence and epidemiological characteristics inNanchang District of Wuxi.2. To understand the hypertension related knowledge, attitude, and behavior ofresidents in Nanchang District of Wuxi.3. To analyze the possible related factors on hypertension prevalence in NanchangDistrict of Wuxi.4. To provide scientific basis for the local government departments to develophypertension prevention and control policy.MethodsA multistage sampling was used to randomly select5000inhabitants who were agedmore than18years old in Nanchang District for more than six months.The content of this survey included blood pressure measurement,possible relatedfactors and knowledge, attitude, and behavior of hypertension.The respondents were investigated by way of physical measurement and questionnairesurvey by professional training staff.We established the database after repeated examination and then analyzed the data.Results1. The survey showed that the detection rate of hypertension was21.97%amongresidents who were aged over18years old in Nanchang District of Wuxi.2. The distribution characteristics of hypertension in Nanchang District of Wuxi wasthat the detection rate of hypertension was no significant difference between men andwomen(χ2=1.60,P=0.21); The detection rate of hypertension in different age groups weresignificant difference(χ2=601.24,P<0.001)and the hypertension detection rate advancedalong with the age gradually increases; The detection rate of hypertension in age groupswere significant difference in male(χ2=298.31,P<0.001)and in female(χ2=470.25,P <0.001); The detection rate of hypertension on different educational levels andoccupations were no significant difference because the age was maybe a confoundingfactor; The hypertension detection rate of residents living in different streets weresignificant difference(χ2=22.37,P<0.001).3. The average score of KAP related with hypertension was24.18±6.45and the passrate was58.36%. The average score of hypertension knowledge (K) was7.68±2.98and thepass rate was57.29%. The average score of hypertension attitude (A) was8.98.±2.62andthe pass rate was58.29%. The average score of hypertension practices (P) was6.39.±1.82and the pass rate was51.66%. The KAP score of residents with different age, gender,educational levels and hypertension or whether were significant difference(P<0.01)Residents with60years old group, female, college degree or above, hypertension hadhigher KAP scores.4. Age (OR=2.622,95%CI:2.448-2.808), family history (OR=6.553,95%CI:5.342-8.040), smoking, taste salty(OR=2.082,95%CI:1.545-2.806), abdomenobesity(OR=2.717,95%CI:2.214-3.335), overweight(OR=2.747,95%CI:2.307-3.271)or obesity (OR=1.484,95%CI:1.199-1.837) and KAP score (OR=1.036,95%CI:1.022-1.139) were maybe the risk factors of hypertension.Conclusion1. The survey showed that the hypertension detection rate of residents over18yearsold in Nanchang District of Wuxi was in a higher level.2. The distribution characteristics of hypertension in Nanchang District of Wuxi wasthat the hypertension detection rate was rising with age and the hypertension detection rateof urban-fringe residents was higher than those of urban residents.3. The KAP levels related with hypertension was not satisfactory.4. Age, family history, smoking, taste salty, abdomen obesity, overweight or obesityand KAP score were maybe the risk factors of hypertension.
