Objective:By using RCT, we compared the group treated by the "fire needle-cupping-fire needle" method with the group treated by western medicine, to observe the therapeutic effect on shortening the duration of HZ and the prevention of postherpetic neuralgia. Methods:There were68cases randomly divided into the treatment group and the control group, all the cases were HZ patients collected from March1,2013to August31,2013, six cases were excluded. The treatment group was treated by "fire needle-cupping-fire needle" method, once a day for1Odays, and the control group was treated by western medicine, valaciclovir hydrochloride taken orally,0.6g, twice a day for10days. We evaluated the clinical effect between two groups by the total effective scale, the index of HZ and pain, single symptom scale and the pain recurrence of the two group in the1st month、2nd month and the3rd month.Results:(1) There were68patients in total, while6of them fell off.(36patients in the treatment group,3excluded and1fell off, while32in the control group,2fell off.(2)The baseline of the treatment group and control group were almost alined (P>0.05), thus the two group were comparable.(3) To compare the therapeutic effect: the therapeutic effect of treatment group was better, The cure rate and the total response rate of the treatment group are higher than the ones of the control group, and the difference of the therapeutic effect between the two groups is statistically significant (P<0.05).(4) The treatment group was more efficiency in shortening the time for releasing pain and the time for eliminating pain, and the difference is statistically significant (P<0.05).(5) The time for scabbing and decrustation of the treatment group is shorter than the control group (P<0.05).(6) The occurrence rate of postherpetic neuralgia(PHN) of the treatment group was lower in the1st month,2nd month and the3rd month(P<0.01).Conclusion:1. The" fire needle-cupping-fire needle" method showed significant effect on the HZ, and more effective than the western medicine。2. The treatment group was superior to the control group on the effects of promoting the escharing, reducing the pain, shortening the time of pain, and decreasing the occurrence of PHN.3. The method of "fire needle-cupping-fire needle" has so many advantages, such as easy for operation, less side effect, safe, low cost, easy to be accepted and son on, therefore, this method is proper for the clinical application and further development.
