ObjectiveTo observe the clinical efficacy and possible mechanisms of Dachengqitang plus acupressure on gastrointestinal dysfunction in patients with sepsis.MethodsOne hundred sepsis patients were randomized into an observation group and a control group. The control groups were given with Western medicine treatment and Dachengqitang. In the observation group, acupressure was added for14days. The change of bowel sounds and abdominal circumference and intra-abdominal pressure and the APACHE II score was performed, and serum IL-6and CRP levels were detected before and after treatment. The adverse drug reactions were also observed.ResultsAfter treatment, bowel sounds, abdominal circumference, abdominal pressure and tolerated enteral nutrition were improved in two groups, but the treatment group improved significantly compared (p<0.05). There was no significant difference on serum IL-6and CRP at day3in the two groups of patients>0.05). However, CRP and IL-6levels in the treatment group is lower than the control group, but the difference was not statistically significant (P>0.05); Moreover, The APACHE Ⅱ scores of both groups were reduced after treatment, but no significant difference between the two groups (P>0.05).ConclusionsDachengqitang combined with acupressure can improve gastrointestinal function in sepsis patients through reducing proinflammatory cytokines. We propose that this treatment is worthy to clinical application.
