ObjectiveThis study is indicated to enhance the survivorship of hip prostheses, lower theoccurrence of revision of total hip arthroplasty and evaluate the effects of revision byretrospective analyzing the reasons of revision of failed primary total hip arthroplasty, patients are from No.88hospital of PLA in recent5years.MethodBy retrospective analyzing information of45patients which received revision of totalhip arthroplasty in No.88hospital of PLA between January2009and March2014, thestudy summarize the reasons of the failed total hip replacement, and patients were followedup. The effects of revision of total hip arthroplasty were evaluated by Harris hip scorebefore and follow-up surgery.Results36of45patients were followed up, the average time of follow-up is about34months(3-66months). The reasons of the revisions were aseptic loosening(36), infection(5),dearticulation(2), acetabular dysplasia(3). Harris hip score was average46.7(19.2-69.9)preoperatively, but it was raised to64.5-89.4postoperatively, and with more than90%ofpatients’ satisfaction.ConclusionRevision of total hip arthroplasty is mainly caused by prosthetic factor, surgicaltechnic factor and patient factor. The most common reasons of revision of failed total hiparthroplasty are aseptic loosening, dearticulation, infection. The performer should be wellprepared for various kinds of difficulties and accidents might happened during the surgery. The quality of patients’ life were significantly improved after revision, which is aneffective way for the treatment of failed total hip arthroplasty.
