Objective: This research aimed at observing the clinicalcurative effect of WuHuangYe. Fungal rhino-sinusitis(FRS) is a kind of specificinfectious of clinical common disease in nasal division. In recent years, with theincreasing use of broad-spectrum antibiotics, corticosteroids, immunosuppres-sor, radiotherapy, increased incidence of chronic wasting disease, such asdiabetes, and aggravating environmental pollution, there is an upward trend inthe incidence of fungal rhino-sinusitis. The more common pathogenic fungiwere aspergillus. FRS accounted for6%~9%cases in a variety of chronicrhino-sinusitis surgery. The disease of postoperative recurrence rate is high. Sohow to prevent postoperative recurrence of fungal rhino-sinusitis effectively hasbecome a problem to be solved. Methods: The patients in this research camefrom two centers (the Affiliated TCM Hospital of Luzhou Medical College andthe Affiliated Hospital of Luzhou Medical College), and they were divided intreatment group and control group by randomized controlled method way. Theincluded patients in our study were in May2005to May2012in hospital, Thepatients in this research used the Chinese native medicine preparationWuHuangYe for lavaging nasal sinuses after nasal endoscopic sinus surgery, and compared with normal saline. According to including and excludingstandard, we collected the clinical diagnosis of noninvasive fungal rhino-sinusitis (Fei Jing Shi Re syndrome or Dan Fu Yu Re syndrome)146cases (157sides) effectively. All the patients were operated by nasal endoscopicsinus surgery. In treatment group (73cases,80sides), traditional Chinesemedicine WuHuangYe100ml was began to irrigate nasal sinuses at the fourthday postoperation once aday in the first month, then, changed to once a week, atotal of3months for a course of treatment. Physiological saline was used toirrigate nasal sinuses in control group(73cases,77sides) with the samefrequency and dose. Every patient received follow-up observation for6monthsand the subjective visual analog scale (VAS) evaluation and objective nasalendoscopy (Lund-Kennedy score) evaluation to evaluate curative effect. Results: Every patient received follow-up observation and nasal endoscopicexamination for6months to evaluate curative effect.VAS score for the curativeeffect comparison between the treatment group and control group wasstatistically significant difference (t=2.55, P<0.05).The curative effect forDan Fu Yu Re syndrome was no statistically significant difference comparedwith the Fei Jing Shi Re syndrome both in treatment group and control group(F=2.180,P>0.05). Lund-Kennedy score for the curative effectcomparison between the treatment group and control groups was statisticallysignificant difference (t=3.56, P<0.05).The curative effect for Dan Fu Yu Resyndrome in treatment group was statistically significant difference comparedwith the Dan Fu Yu Re syndrome in control group (P=0.029,P <0.05).Therewere no statistical significance of difference between the rest of syndromes. Conclusion: By subjective VAS evaluation and objective Lund-Kennedy evaluation, those patients who used WuHuangYe for lavaging nasal sinusescan improved the efficacy for fungal rhino-sinusitis obviously after nasalendoscopic sinus surgery. VAS score for the curative effect in each syndromeswas no significant difference. In Lund-Kennedy score for the curative effect, curative effect of WuHuangYe in Dan Fu Yu Re syndrome is superior to salinesolution. This research prompt that using WuHuangYe for lavaging nasalsinuses has a better curative effect for fungal rhino-sinusitis after surgery.WuHuangYe can reduce postoperative nasal mucosal inflammation, promotemucosal epithelium and reduce nasal secretions. Using WuHuangYe forlavaging nasal sinuses is better than saline. There was no side effects foundduring the research.
