Objective: To investigate the influencing factors and treatment of re-fracture of longbone after the removal of internal fixation. Methods: In this study,21cases of re-fracture of long bone after the removal ofinternal fixation from the orthopedic ward of affiliated hospital of Shandong University ofTraditional Chinese Medicine since December2011to July2013. Retrospectively analyzedthe21cases and summarized the reasons for causing re-fracture. All cases use lockingplate internal fixation and graft autogenous iliac bone, guide patients with functionalrehabilitation treatment. Postoperative according to bone healing and functional recoverywere assessed double standards. Results: All21cases were followed up for three to twelve months, re-fracturehealing in patients with excellent rate100%, functional recovery rate95.2%, re-fractureaverage healing time4.2months.Conclusion:1. The strength of the long bone reduces after the removal of internalfixation is the fundamental reason of re-fracture. While stress shielding effect anddestruction of blood supply under the internal fixation are the main factors of the strengthof bone reduces. At the same time removing the internal fixation prematurely can lead tothe bone strength has not yet fully recovered, which is another important factor causingre-fracture.2. The healing effect is positive by using locking plate internal fixation andgrafting autogenous iliac bone combined with appropriate functional exercise.
