Objective:To identify the current evidence on the effectiveness of psychologicalintervention for ovarian cancer patients using systematic review and, if possible, alltime-points meta-analysis of repeated measures (ATM) was performedfor data synthesis. Methods:Cochrane Handbook for Systematic Reviews of Interventions was followed,With exactly designed search strategies, published literatures weresearched through Embase, Ovid, CINAHL, Pubmed, Web of Science(SCI),CBM disc,CNKI,VIP,SinoMed,Wan Fang database. Ten databases were reviewedfrom1966or the start of the database to April2014. The literatures of randomizedcontrolled trials (RCT) on the effectiveness of psychological intervention wereselected. All the studies were selected according to the inclusion criteria. Referencelists from included studies were also examined. The Cochrane Handbookwas used to assess the quality of those included studies. All datawere extracted using a data extraction form, and Review Manager5.0.2software was applied in this review. All data were extracted using adata extraction form, and Stata12.0software was applied in this review. Results:Eighteen RCTs were selected for inclusion in the review. Results of criticalappraisal showed that7trials were evaluated as high quality level while the other11trials were low quality level. Results of metaanalysis were listed as follows:①Quality of life (QOL): at2weeks, standardized mean difference (WMD)=7.30,95%confidence interval (95%CI)(1.11,13.49), p=0.021;at4weeks,SMD=2.91,95%CI (-2.47,8.30), p=0.289; at12weeks, SMD=-1.56,95%CI(-0.17,3.28), p=0.077.②Depression: at2weeks, standardized mean difference (SMD)=-1.11,95%confidence interval (95%CI)(-1.74,-0.47),p=0.001;at4weeks, SMD=-0.20,95%CI (-1.57,-1.16), p=0.769; at12weeks,SMD=-1.18,95%CI (-1.83,0.53), p<0.0001.③Anxiety:Limited trials (7/18)considered anxiety as outcome and they were too heterogeneous to besynthesized by meta analysis. There was not enough evidence to reachthe conclusion about the effectiveness of psychological intervention on QOL.Conclusion:Psychological intervention could produce effects on ovarian cancer patients, andcan also produce short-term effects in improving depression. However,The current evidence cannot reach a precise conclusion about the effectivenessofpsychological intervention on ovarian cancer patients. Consideringmethodological limitations of included studies, the conclusion of thisstudy should be viewed, interpreted, and generalized with cautions.
