Purpose:To detect the characteristics of risk factors, clinical symptoms, radiology and prognosis of the Isolated infarcts of the pons.Method:Patients of the pontine infarcts that were admitted to the neurologicdepartment of our hospital(from October2013to September2014) wereused to conduct this respective study.Statistical analysis was carried outon the clinical data for risk factors, etiology, clinical symptoms, physicalsigns, auxiliary examination complication and prognosis of pontineinfarcts patients..And review the related literatures.Result:(1) The main risk factors of the Isolated infarcts of the pons wereidentified as hypertension, smoking or drinking alcohol, hyperchole-sterolemia, hypertriglyceridemia, high density liporpotein, diabetes, andheart disease, as well as the history of cerebrovascular disease.Penetratingbranch artery disease is the most common etiology.(2) The most common clinical symptoms were dysarthria andweakness of limbs, with disorders of vertigo, paresthesia, ataxia, anddiplopia disorder followed successively with the main symptoms. (3) Various anatomical locations ranged from a frequency from highto low as follows:Anteromedial territory, Anterolateral territory, Lateralterritory, Posterior territory.(4) The main complication of the pontine infarcts patients wasinfection of respiratory tract, fever, and electrolyte disturbances.(5) During the119patients,70of which were basic cured,28ofwhich acquired remarkable progress, progress in20cases, and1deathswere reported.During the20progress patients,6of which were progressivestroke.Conclusion:(1) The most common risk factor of pontine infarcts washypertension, and the most common reason was Penetrating branch arterydisease.(2) The main symptoms of pontine infarcts were dysarthria andidentified as limb weakness.(3) The manifestations of the pontine infarcts were compelx, andwere easy to misdiagnosis.Thorough physical examination is necessarywhen patients are presented to hospital and the MRI examination.(4) The classic pontine syndromes are rare.
