Metformin In Treating Type2Diabetes Mellitus With Essential Hypertension Patients:a Meta—analysis

Objective:To assess the efficacy of metformin in treating type2diabetes mellitus with essential hypertension by studying the changes of indicators like SBP,DBP,FBG. We can research the effection in blood pressure and blood glucose.Then provide relevant suggestion for clinical treatment.Methods:We searched The Cochrane Library, MEDLINE, China Biological Medicine Database, VIP, and Wanfang from the date of their establishment to September2013. The articles researched to investigate references and collect randomized controlled trials(RCTs) about metformin (experimental group) compared with non-metformin (control group) in treating T2DM with HBP. The trials were screened according to the inclusion and exclusion criteria by two reviewers independently, the data were extracted, the methodological quality was assessed, and finally meta-analysis was conducted with RevMan4.2software.Results:Among5RCTs involving717patients, The results of meta-analyses showed that the experimental group was more effective than the control group in lowering blood glucose levels(FBG:WMD=-1.96mmol/L,95%CI(-2.85,-1.06), P<0.0001).There were no significant differences in systolic blood pressure levels(SBP:WMD=-7.13mmHg,95%CI(-17.47,3.22), P=0.18), diastole blood pressure levels (DBP:WMD=-3.02mmHg,95%CI(-9.87,3.82), P=0.39).Conclusions:To treating patients suffering from T2DM with HBP, the metformin is much effective than the control group in lowering blood glucose;there were no significant differences in systolic blood pressure and diastole blood pressure levels. There were few limitations in our study may lead to weaken reliability of the conclusions, such as small simple size, other risk factor were unclear. Its effectiveness was needed to further validate in future clinical studies.
