Abstract/Summary:
In recent years, the problem of drinking water safety has become a focus of the nationaleconomy and the people’s livelihood. Disinfection of the raw water treatment is the key to ensure the security of water resources. Finding new methods of disinfecting and decontaminating water at lower cost is the direction of water treatment industry.Hydrogen peroxide is a powerful oxidizing agent which could prevent bacterial growth in the water. During the process of water electrolysis, intermediate active species and radicals generated also. H2O2have a high redox potential which the reaction product is only CO2and water.H2O2could be an effective solution of the treatment of pre-oxidant. Furthermore, electro-generated H2O2on-site can solve the problem of transportation safety and reduce costs. In the current study, we design a new device which makes a good effect on generate H2O2. The device was an electrolyzer which could electro-generate without adding any chemical substances. It have a good effect on water treatment of contaminant. The current study concludes with a discussion of future research consideration in water treatment industry.Our laboratory design an electrolyzer which generates hydrogen peroxide without membrane, but modified electrolyzer have GDL in the current study, which oxygen could be fully used at the cathode, it was benefit for generation of H2O2. The O2aeration was likely to increase the concentration of O2in water and the diffusion and transfer rate of O2to the surface of the cathode and therefore enhanced the formation of H2O2. In the reaction system, without aeration, the soluble O2in water from air and electrogenerated O2are the source of O2for cathodic reduction. Under the circumstances, the concentration of H2O2produced was low, at the same time, when oxygen gas was aerated, the experiment show that H2O2concentration increased linearly with increasing the aeration rate up.
