Human Embryonic Stem Cells To Explore Ethical Issues In Clinical Trials

With the development of medical science and technology, human embryonic stem cells research has entered the stage of clinical trials. The purpose of clinical trials is to prepare for the formal treatment by showing its function and the adverse reactions, etc. The experiment has an important significance for the development of medical progress and science.However, with the development of the clinical trial, a series of ethical problems began to emerge which hinder the development and application of human embryonic stem cells technology. How to solve these problems to ensure the smooth progress of clinical trials, and make sure that this technology can take benefits to human beings is to be discussed. The medical profession faces new challenges in China, meanwhile problems arise in the international medical community as well.This paper analyzes the ethical problems in clinical trials in human embryonic stem cells from the perspective of the profession ethics, involving the moral status of embryo, the subjects’ rights and interests protection. Therapeutic cloning is sliding into a reproductive cloning and the security of insufficient preparation of clinical trials. And from the angle of profession ethics, it analyzes the causes of these ethical problems, as the main responsibility is related to clinical trials, including the government, the ethical review committee, the researchers, the clinical test units and other main body in the process of experiment are not able to perform their duties properly, showing a lack of sense of responsibility. Therefore, profession ethics should become the contemporary ethics which provides a new dimension and the ethical guidance for solving the ethics problems in clinical trials on human embryonic stem cells. Finally, based on the analysis of the ethical issues and the reasons in clinical trials in human embryonic stem cells, this paper is to put forward two principles: the experiment should stick to four principles of human life and the bottom line of ethics responsibility ethics, and through two specific measures of self-discipline and other-discipline: strengthen responsibility consciousness of the responsibility main body and strengthen the construction of related systems. These measures are effective to solve the ethical problems in clinical trials in human embryonic stem cells in China and ensure the smooth progress in clinical trials on human embryonic stem cells.
