ObjectiveExplore the impact of unilateral pedicle screw fixation combined with interbody Cage bone grafting on anatomy structure of intervertebral foramina on the healthy side of the fused segments. MethodsTo retrospectively research on clinical data of 30 patients, who took unilateral posterior lumbar pedicle screw fixation combined with interbody Cage fusion surgery on the segment between the 4th lumbar and the 5th lumber at the Affiliated Nanhua Hospital, University of South China from December 2012 to December 2013.We applied computer Multi-slice computed tomography reconstruction technique, measuring segmental transverse diameter and the longitudinal diameter data of the healthy side of the segment between the 4th lumbar and the fifth lumber respectively. Applying the Japanese Orthopedic Association score(JOA) to evaluate the leg pain relief conditions of 30 patients before and after surgery, and statistically analyzed changes in the fused segmental contralateral foramen morphology after surgery. ResultsThe intervertebral foramina vertical diameter after surgery is 17.39 ± 2.21 mm, transverse diameter 10.23 ± 0.99 mm, which have no significant changes of preoperative intervertebral foramina with the longitudinal diameter 17.18±2.87 mm, transverse diameter 9.98±1.53 mm,.P> 0.05, and are not statistically significant. This shows that there are no obvious changes in data. By the JOA score results, all patients JOA score was(11.73 ± 1.337). After 1 week, 6 months, 12 months, JOA scores were(21.00±3.824),(25.13±2.945),(25.53±3.794) respectively, with the postoperative JOA scores significantly higher than the preoperative scores P<0.05, statistically significant, which presents the good effect of the surgery. ConclusionAfter using unilateral pedicle screw fixation combined with Cage interbody fusion surgery to cure lumbar degenerative disease, transverse diameter and longitudinal diameter of the surgery segment intervertebral foramina on the healthy side do not change significantly. And lumbar and leg pain is obviously relieved after the surgery, which indicating that there is no direct causal relationship between the ache of lower limb of the healthy side and intervertebral foramina.
