Objectives: To research the correlation of the expression level of plasma micro RNA-21(mi RNA-21, mi R-21) with the occurrence of atrial fibrillation(AF) and the known related risk factors of AF. To provide new target for the clinical diagnosis of AF.Methods: 1) Objective groups: AF group contained 58 patients with AF, and control group contained 34 patients with sinus rhythm.2) The plasma mi RNA-21 was detected with quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction(q RT-PCR) in the two groups.3) General clinical data and the data of high-sensitivity C-reactive protein(hs-CRP), low density lipoprotein cholesterol(LDL-C), high density lipoprotein cholesterol(HDL-C), total cholesterol(TC), triglyeeride(TG), left atrial diameter(LAD) and left ventricular ejection fraction(LVEF) of all research subjects were collected. To analyze the correlation between the expression level of plasma mi RNA-21 and the above indexes. To explore the clinical significance of plasma mi RNA-21 expression in the occurrence of AF.4) SPSS 18.0 statistical software was applied for the data statistics. The measurement data which conformed to normal distribution was expressed with the mean±standard deviation(?x±s), the others which didn’t conform to normal distribution were expressed with the media(M). To test the difference between two groups, we chose chi-square test for count data, two Independent Sample t-test for measurement data which conformed to normal distribution and Mann-Whitey U test for measurement data which didn’t conform to normal distribution. The pair-wise correlations of non-normal data were analyzed by Spearman correlation analysis and partial correlation analysis. A a value of 0.05 was considered statistically significant. Results: 1) There was no statistically significant difference in gender, age, smoking history, history of drinking, the proportion of patients with coronary heart disease, hypertension and diabetes between AF and control group.2) Compared with the control group, the expression level of plasma mi RNA-21 in AF group was significantly increased.3) Compared with the control group, TC, TG and LDL-C levels decreased, hs-CRP level increased, LAD enlarged, and LVEF decreased in AF group, the differences had statistical significance; but at HDL-C level, there was no statistically significant difference between two groups.4) In AF group, the expression level of plasma mi RNA-21 was positively correlated with LAD.Conclusions:1) Compared with the control group, the expression level of plasma mi RNA-21 increased in AF group, which may provide a new biomarker for the clinical diagnosis of AF.2) The expression level of plasma mi RNA-21 was positively correlated with LAD in AF patients, which may be involved in atrial structural remodeling.
