Objective:To study the clinicopathologic characteristics and prognosis in rectal cancer between Uygur patients and Han patients.Methods:The 196 cases with rectal cancer in first 1 Affliticated Hospital of Xinji ang Medical University were reviewed-Including 58 Uygurs and 138 Han who were collected from January 2008 to February 2010. We then analyzed differences in the ir clinical pathological features and prognosis.Results:Sex, age, blood type, occupation, treatment time, the first symptom, histol ogical type and DUKES were signifantly different between two nationals (P<0.05); Education, concomitant diseases, CEA, tumor location, tumor size, gross type, degr ee of differentiation, postoperative chemotherapy were not signifantly different betw een two nationals(P>0.05); The 5-year overall survival of the patients from Uygur was shorter than that of the patients from Han (P<0.05); According to the multivar iate analysis, Ethnic served as an independent prognostic factor in th-e patients wh o underwent radical resectionof their rectal carcinoma (P<0.05).Conclusion:The Uyghur rectal cancer patients are associated with significantly you nger age, later treatment, later stages, more aggressive histopathologic characteristics and have significantly worse prognosis than the Han patients.
