Objective:To investigate the effect of one-stage tatle knee arthroplaty (TKA) for advanced active tuberculosis of the knee.Methods:Data of 22 patients who had recived one-stage TKA for advanced active tuberculosis of the knee in our hospital from June 2005 to June 2013 were retrospectively analyzed. There were 9 males (9 knees),13 females(13 knees), aged from 23 to 66 years (avrage,45.23years), Patients had knee pain, knee swelling, pain, active and passive activities were increased. Varying degrees of knee flexion dysfunction, lateral knee tenderness were positive gap,8 patients had knee stiffness.ESR were 27-72mm/h (avrage,47.77mm/h).X-ray and CT scan were shown: joint space narrowing or disappearance of irreversible damage to the bone.Knee pathologic examination confirmed the diagnosis of tuberculosis.Preoperative system antituberculosis intensive treatment 2 to 4 weeks.Maintenance treatment 9 to 18 months after the Surgery.Results:All patients were followed up 14 months to 110months (avrage,30.46 months). All patients’incison were healed up at one-stage.Tuberculosis recurrence occurred in 1 patient 2 months after the Surgery. Artificial joint prosthesis was loosening found in 1 patient 6years after the Surgery,others No reactivation of infection or implant loosening was found in other patients. The ESR recovery 6 months after the Surgery. The avrage AKS score improved from 25.59±5.07 to 85.09±4.23 at final follow-up.Conclusion:Under the standardanti-TB chemotherapy, Single-stage TKA can be safely performed in advanced active tuberculosis of the knee.which can be relife symptoms and improve knee function.
