PurposeThis study focused on analyzing the effect of absorbed skull lock on bone flap reduction after adult craniotomy and testing its security and stability.Method1.Choose 90 cases that were accepted craniotomy in the Department of Neurosurgery at Henan Province People’s Hospital from 2012.1 to 2013.6 and divide into absorbable and non-absorbable group following the fixed material. Comparative study was done based onpostoperative complications and follow up data.2. To impose three dimensional reconstruction for skulls in two groups at once,3 and 6 month after craniotomy and comparative study was done based on the change of distance between bone seams.3. The 3 cases of absorbable group occurred tumor recurrence after complete healing of skull, craniotomies were operated again and we took skull tissue during interoperations to do HE staining.Result1. The wound of the patients in absorbable group healed well and their bone flap fixed well. The effect of two groups were similar and there were no obvious difference between two group. (P>0.05)2. The distance of bone flap in absorbable group were all reduced at 3 month aftercraniotomies, among them 42 cases completely healed at 6 month after craniotomies and other 3 cases completely healed at 12 month after craniotomies. The effect of two groups were similar and there were no obvious difference between two group. (P>0.05)3. The results of HE staining that were tested with the tissue of the patients with tumor recurrence showed there were fiber connection during the process of healing. Conclusion1. The skull lock as a new device for skull flap fixation that is similar to metal device, it can be absorbed by body and do not occur rejection. 2. The skull lock is used to bone flap fixation and play a crucial role in strong internal fixation during the key period. In a conclusion, the skull lock is safety to apply for bone flap fixation after adult craniotomy.
