Objective: To explore serum levels and clinical significance of adiponectin in type 2 diabetes patients(T2DM) with obstructive sleep apnea-hypopnea syndrome(OSAHS). Methods: In our study, We randomly selected 38 T2 DM patients with OSAHS(DM+OS group), 28 T2 DM patients(DM group), 36 OSAHS patients(OS group) and 28 healthy people(NC group). The general clinical information were collected, and serum levels of adiponectin were tested. Results:(1) Serum levels of adiponectin in DM+OS group, DM group and OS group were significantly lower than those in NC group. Serum levels of adiponectin were significantly lower in DM+OS group as compared to DM groups(P<0.05). However, there was no statistical difference between OS group and DM group in serum levels of adiponectin(P>0.05).(2) WHR, TC and IR in DM+OS group were highest as compared to the other three groups(P<0.05).(3) Pearson correlation analysis showed that serum levels of adiponectin were negatively correlated with serum UA levels(r=-0.169, P=0.048), GGT levels(r=-0.148, P=0.046), TG levels(r=-0.158, P=0.036).(4) Logistic regression analysis showed that serum adiponectin was a protective factor for T2 DM and OSAHS(OR=0.993, 95%CI: 0.989-0.998). Conclusions: Serum levels of adiponectin were significantly lower in T2 DM patients with OSAHS,T2 DM and OSAHS exert similar influence on serum levels of adiponectin. Increasing adiponectin levels may ameliorate insulin resistance and hypoxemia state, reduce visceral fat accumulation, which are beneficial to prognosis of T2 DM and OSAHS.
