Meta-analysis Of The C270T Polymorphism Of Brain-derived Neurotrophic Factor Gene In Schizophrenia

Objective:We conducted a meta-analysis to evaluate the relationship between brain-derived neurotrophic factor C270T polymorphism and susceptibility of schizophrenia. Methods:A systematic search was performed in CNKI, CBM, Wanfang, Pubmed and Elservier databases, Two reviewers independently selected studies on the genetic association of BDNF gene C270T polymorphism with schizophrenia was extracted onto standardized forms. A retrieval was performed for the case control study on the C270T polymorphism of the patients with schizophrenia. Its findings are available to gain OR and 95%CI or other basic data. The RevMan5.2 software was applied for investigating and summarizing the relationship between C270T polymorphism and schizophrenia. Subgroups were divided according to races. Sensitivity analysis was conducted by repeating meta-analysis with low quality of studies removed and statistical model changed. Publication bias was examined using funnel plots. Results:A total of 16 studies with 3874 patients and 4309 controls were included. The BDNF gene C270T polymorphism were related with schizophrenia (all P<0.01), The C vs.T model with OR 1.65[95%CI (1.26, 2.16)], CC vs. CT+TT model with OR 1.71 [95%CI (1.27,2.30)], and CT vs. CC+TT model with OR 0.61 [95%CI (0.45,0.82)], respectively. The relationship of three model with schizophrenia of Caucasian subgroup were insignificant (all P≥0.05), with OR 1.29[95%CI(1.00,1.67)]、1.31[95%CI (1.00,1.71)] and 0.77[95%CI (0.59,1.00)], respectively. But those of Asian subgroup were significant (P<0.01), with 1.89[95%CI (1.30,2.75)]、1.97[95%CI(1.29,3.03)] and 0.53[95%CI(0.34,0.83)], respectively. Conclusion:The C270T polymorphism of brain-derived neurotrophic factor gene might contribution to schizophrenia susceptibility in Asian population.
