Objective: To explore the prognosis for recurrence and metastasis of parotid gland cancer after operation. Methods:Retrospective analysis of 88 cases was included during 2001 to 2010 among patients with malignant tumors of the parotid gland,27 cases of surgery alone, and 61 cases of surgery concurrent with radiotherapy, the recurrence and metastasis was observed by univariate and multivariate analysis of prognosis with SPSS 17.0 statistical software. Results:Follow-up rate was 90.91%, overall 5-year survival rate is 92.50%,5-year local regional control rate was 75.00%, and 5-year distant metastasis rate was 6.82%. Localized control failure rate was 9.09%; 5-year disease-free survival rate of postoperative radiotherapy group and operation group were 81.97% and 59.26% respectively. Univariate analysis and multivariate analysis showed that postoperative radiotherapy and neural system invasion are the important prognostic factors in patients with localized regional control and disease-free survival impact. Conclusion:Neural system invasion was an independent prognostic factor, postoperative radiotherapy significantly reduced local recurrence, and improved disease-free survival. Integrated treatment methods that surgery combined with radiotherapy was recommended for mid-stage and end-stage malignant parotid patients.
