Objective: To investigate the expression levels of activated leukocyte cell adhesion molecule(ALCAM) and carcino-embryonic antigen related cellular adhesion molecule-6(CEACAM-6) in patients with non-small cell lung cancer(NSCLC) as well as theirclinical significance, and the detection of ALCAM and CEACAM expression may provide a clinical basis for the diagnosis and targeted therapy of lung cancer. Methods: All of the patients were from the Department of Thoracic Surgery of the First People’s Hospital of Changzhou. Immunohistochemical method was used to detect the expression of ALCAM and CEACAM-6 in 46 NSCLC specimens, and the m RNA were detected by RT-PCR in 20 of 46 specimens. Statistics analyzed the relationship between the expression of ALCAM and CEACAM-6 and clinicopathological features. Results: Both ALCAM and CEACAM-6 were high expression in NSCLC(76.1 and 69.6 %, respectively). The positive rate of ALCAM is100% in squamous carcinoma, 56% in adencarcinoma(P<0.05). The express--ion of ALCAM protein was positively correlated to tumor size(T1, T2 and T3)(P<0.05), but had no correlation with patient’s sex, age, histological type, pathological staging, the invasion depth and lymph node metastasis(P>0.05).The expression of CEACAM-6 had no correlation with the age, gender, tumor classification, lymphatic metastasis or pathological stage(P>0.05). RT-PCR showed that the expression of ALCAM was higher in tumor than adjacent normal tissues(P<0.05). However, the expression of ALCAM in squamouscarcinoma was remarkably higher than adjacent normal tissues. Compared to adjacent normal tissues, the expression of CEACAM-6 shows no significant differences between tumor and adjacent tissues. Kaplan-Meier survival curve indicated that there was no obvious correlation between intratumoral expression of ALCAM and CEACAM-6 and survival time of NSCLC patients(P>0.05).Conclusion: ALCAM, CEACAM-6 proteins were high expression in NSCLC, and the both expressions were positive correlation. ALCAM expression is higher in squamous carcinoma than in adencarcinoma. The expression of ALCAM and CEACAM-6 may have no relationship with the patient’s prognosis.
