ObjectiveInvestigating parents attentions on malocclusion’s early prevention and early orthodontic intervention in Shandong province to strengthen parents’ awareness on early prevention and treatment.Methods1.Randomly selecting 752 parents to carry out questionnaires, they all took their children treated at Shandong University Stomatology Hospital during March to October,2014. There were 307 parents of children with mixed dentition and 445 parents of deciduous Children included.2.There were two parts of the questionnaires, one for attention on early prevention, another for early orthodontic interventionResults1. Results on early prevention① Parents’ attention on hereditary was low and they paid more attention on hereditary when presenting family history.② In terms to environmental factors, parents paid most attention on diet, then poor oral habits and deciduous diseases, they paid least attention on related respiratory diseases.③ Parents thought aesthetics was more important than psychology.④ Parents of deciduous children focused on diet while parents of children with mixed dentition thought poor oral habits and the effects on children’s psychology were more important.⑤ Parents paid more attention on prevention when they got higher academic level.2. Results of early orthodontic intervention① Most parents were satisfied on children’s oral situation. Half of the parents looked for help when they weren’t satisfied.② Regular oral examination was carried out rarely, most parents sought for help when children had a toothache.③ Parents paid little attention on time and methods of treatment.④Comparing to parents of deciduous Children, parents of children with mixed dentition were less satisfied on children’s oral situation.⑤When parents got higher academic level, they felt less satisfaction on children’s oral situation but paid more attention on regular oral examination and treatment time and methods.Conclusions1. In terms to early prevention, parents attention on various factors was low. Parents of deciduous children focused on diet while parents of children with mixed dentition think poor oral habits and the effects on children’s psychology are more important. Parents paid more attention on prevention when they got higher academic level.2. When it comes to orthodontic intervention, parents’attention on treatment time and methods was low. Most parents were satisfied on children’s oral situation and the higher of parents’academic level, the satisfaction were lower. Regular oral examination was carried out rarely, but parents with high academic level paid more attention on it.3. In general, parents attention on early prevention and orthodontic intervention were low, we need to appeal to the whole society to pay more attention on it.
