Children's oral health is one of the key factors to ensure their physical and mental health. The occurrence of malocclusion in this period will not only affect the growth and development by affecting the masticatory function, but also seriously affect children's mental health due to problems such as pronunciation and facial shape. Therefore, malocclusion in the primary, mixed and early permanent dentitions should be intervened personalized on the basis of the type of malocclusion and chief complaint.Early intervention of preadolescent malocclusions include the early prevention of the causes of malocclusion, the interceptive treatment of early abnormal dentition and occlusion to guide the establishment of normal occlusion, the early growth control and intervention for the ongoing malocclusion. At the same time, early orthodontic intervention can alleviate the abnormal development of alveolar, muscles and skeleton by utilizing the characteristics of vigorous growth and development of jaw bone in the period.Even if severe skeletal malocclusions are difficult to be corrected perfectly, early orthodontic intervention can alleviate symptoms, which is beneficial to second phase treatment. The author summarized the views of many experts on early orthodontic intervention in recent years from three aspects, including cause, timing and method of early orthodontic intervention, hoping to direct clinical work.
